Personally, Thomas said that his experience in the CIMBA program taught him how to be more mindful and to prioritize the cultivation of relationships-something that has benefitted him as a friend and partner as well as professionally. He commented on the common denominators we all have as humans and how witnessing people parading in the streets after their home country emerged victorious expanded his worldview far beyond any classroom setting ever could. He recounted tales of traveling to each match of the EuroCup soccer tournament across continental Europe and staying out late with his friends while sharing the joy of a team's victory with people who had completely different backgrounds. Upon asking Thomas what his favorite memory from the program was, his face immediately shone with an expression that represented how exhilarating and impactful his experience abroad was. Thomas is now the General Manager at Walker Brothers and Baumans Men's Fine clothing in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Last week, I had the pleasure of sharing these thoughts and observations with the incredibly kind and welcoming Thomas Cole who attended the CIMBA summer study abroad program as a junior undergraduate student in 2008. ![]() Every day is completely experiential and filled with the possibility of meeting someone new, trying new cuisine, or viewing a cathedral that is more ancient than the United States of America. This in-the-moment worldview has been especially apparent to me lately during my time in Italy in the CIMBA Summer Study Abroad Program. Through the years, this quote has taken on new meaning for me from a famous line in an essential film to a cautionary statement of how mindfulness, experiencing new things, and taking calculated risks are essential to maximizing our human experience.
